About FRAS Technology A/S

FRAS Technology (Fluid Reliability Availability and Safety) was established by Sølve Fjerdingstad in 2005, based on 40 years of experience in the hydraulic industry. The company offers unique and complete solutions for advanced machine diagnostics and maintenance. Originally a service within Det norske Veritas (DnV), the service was established as an idenpendant company, after several innovations by Mr. Fjerdingstad.

Sølve Fjerdingstad has a strong track record from several large projects and companies like Parker Hannifin, Hägglunds and Det Norske Veritas. After having seen numerous component breakdowns in installations in the shipping, process and offshore industries, as well as in power plants, he figured out that the failures could have been detected before the breakdowns occurred.

Several methods were investigated in cooperation with the Norwegian research community. The conclusion was that the best results were obtained by investigating the lubrication or hydraulic oil in order to detect and analyze wear particles. However, experiments showed that to get correct results the samples have to be taken while the system is running and the oil is under pressure. If the system is closed down, the number and of particles in the sample will not be representative.

Mr. Fjerdingstad developed a patented fluid sampler (a bottle in a container) that is part of the system, which means that the samples can be collected while the system is under pressure. Tests show that this gives reproducibility and unambiguous results which are not influenced by the person collecting the sample. The system was patented in 1990 and given the trademark DynaSamp. Today 1400 DynaSamps are installed in ships, power plants, offshore rigs and in the process industry. DyneSamp is the only sampler that is type approved by Lloyds Register of Shipping.

Based on the patented DynaSamp technology, Fras Technology and partners have developed a future-oriented solution for remote monitoring, DynaView. By combining DynaSamp and Lockheed Martin’s LaserNet technology, FRAS Technology will be able to monitor machineries and hydraulic systems online. The monitoring will be performed from the newly established joint venture between FRAS Technology and Årdal Framtid, FRAS OCM,

DynaSamp is patented by Fras technology, which also holds all intellectual property rights.
